Welcome to Orb Graffiti, a place for me to write daily about life and computers. Contrary to popular belief, the two are not interchangeable.     About eMail - I publish email sometimes. 1011 - And the beat goes on. Most of yesterday following the shopping was devoted to Oblivion. I'll tell you what - if Oblivion were an MMORG, I'd start producing umbrellas, and retire a rich merchant. The only good thing is that armor and weapons appear not to be damaged by time or moisture. Lucky, that.

I'm going to give CentOS a good look this week. I have a few machines to clean up and re-prep for another purpose or two. I've more infrastructure management tools to work on. All in all, I should be a busy boy. That's a good thing, too. Have a decent Monday, and I'll try to do the same.

1116 - Good morning, more or less. Yesterday was Microsoft Patch Day for July, aka the monthly Black Tuesday for admins everywhere. There are patches for critical (read "remote execution with administrator privileges") vulnerabilites in both Windows and MS Office. Upgrade from Windows Update to Microsoft Update, and patch those boxes. I heard one deep security wonk say, "Welcome to Blaster II!"

So that's what I've been up to, mostly. I've also got my facilities hat on, as I'm doing some cube reconfiguration today. Oh, joy. The garden's well, as are Marcia and the mutts, thanks for asking. More when there's more to say. Ciao!

1401 - Good afternoon. Argh! I thought I'd only skipped Friday! I've been busier that Bob Thompson, and that's saying something. Work has been pretty consuming, and the commutes have been horrid. There just isn't much energy for much else during the week. Today I got out of bed at the crack of 9 AM, breakfasted quickly and mowed the lawns front and back. We're due for 100+ heat index over the next few days, and I wanted the heinous work out of the way. After a quick dry-off in the shower (grin), I hared off to Lowes to pick up the supplies I need to build a cutting table for Linda Rose (I've been promising that for the last few months. Garden is growing well, pictures tomorrow. Ciao!

1119 - Good morning. Out and shopping by 0900, that's done already - a good thing, since it's supposed to get to "bloody hot" on the thermoscale today. Is Mother Nature on the Terrorist Watch List, I wonder?

Tiger Lilies about to bloom Corn, looking spectacular Tomatoes and peppers in production Carrots and cucumbers doing great, squash dying

The Tiger Lilies out front are looking to be pretty nice this year. We're a couple of days from first blooms. Out in back, the corn tops are all out, and I've got silks showing on a number of stalks already. Traps plus a mild soap-based insecticide seems to be keeping the Japanese beetles under control for the moment. The tomoatoes are coming up on peak production - we're already pulling out a basket of cherry tomatoes a day. The Romas and variants are about to start turning in numbers. Then we'll be overwhelmed with those. The peppers are producing well, but not hot enough. I'm going to cut their water, and see if the stress helps with capsaicin production. In the upper beds, the carrots are doing fine, and the cucumbers as well. But most of the squash is dying out. Hmmm.

Jerry linked to this Google video called Reveille. 11 minutes, worth watching. The battles swarming around Israel have taken front seat over news from Iraq. But our men and women in uniform still face the same risks, day in and day out, and pay the price for our policies. My condolences for your losses, my thanks for your service!

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
