0922 - Good morning. I didn't mention that I slept oddly on my Saturday night, and woke Sunday with a kink somewhere between upper-right shoulder and neck. It slowly got worse through the day, and even though I got two of the new fixtures installed ... I probably shouldn't have. Today I'm taking naproxen and we'll see how that does, since ibuprofen didn't touch it yesterday.
Today is full of meetings, and I want to fit in some network changes as well. So I'd best be about that. Have a great day!

1938 - Good evening. Time flies when you're having fun. It flies at other times, too. Busy getting ready for network reorg weekend, and watching Buffy. We finished out the last three episodes of the sixth season last night - Evil Willow rocks. But Xander saves the day ... errr, World. Yeah, that.
On Harmony, I've got Firefox 2.0.0.1 installed now. I was able to drop the contents of my default profile from Vimes (the *buntu Linux box) directly into the default profile here on the MacBook Pro. What I did was download, install, and run Firefox. That set up all the directories, etc. Then, after a bit of hunting around, I found myself in this directory: '/Users/bilbrey/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles'
. I found the default profile directory there: 'xnyvslx1.default
'. I made a copy of that using the tar utility, just to save myself any pain down the road. Then I deleted the contents of that directory, leaving just the top level blah.default directory. I cd'd into the directory and used rsync over ssh to copy the contents of the equivalent directory from Vimes:
$ cd xnyvslx1.default $ rsync -av -e ssh vimes:~/.mozilla/firefox/59b1ey3a.default/* . blah password blah... file names scroll by.
That was all that was needed. All of the extensions (okay, both of them: AdBlock and AdBlock FilterSet-G Updater, that's all I use) came up just fine. Bookmarks, custom about:config settings, everything. Rockin'! I also installed keychain to get my ssh-agent managment in line with my normal expectations for commandline network navigation. It's not quite what I'd hoped for, though, so I'm going to try out SSHKeychain next. Oh, and I installed VirtueDesktops. Between two displays and nine virtual desktops, I've got 18 screens of goodness going on. And I can switch desktops by mouse, by keyboard, by waving my hand over the speakers (light sensor) or slapping the machine around (motion sensor). Useful *and* fun!
Now Marcia's come down with a cold that's starting to seem more like a mild flu, so I'm going to go check up on my lovely. Have a great evening.

1202 - Good early afternoon. Wow! Friday. New month. Where does the time go? I'm having a really fun day (not), and plenty to do before the weekend full of network reorg starts tomorrow morning. Sigh. Wish me luck. I'll check in when I can. Ciao!

1427 - Good afternoon. All of the prep work leading up to the weekend paid off - I got everything that had to be done, done yesterday, starting at 8 and ending at 5. There's plenty remaining, but the key bits are in place. So today we slept in, got our shopping done, and now I have projects ... more lighting fixtures to get replaced, and other chores. I'd best get to that in just a minute.
So the surge in Baghdad starts tomorrow... Let's hope that works out, both for the Iraqis, and four our young men and women who put their lives on the line in the Administration's effort to bring democracy after regime change. This week brought more sorrow to families across the States:

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
