Stacks of bamboo flooring |
0647 - Good morning. Surprised you, eh? Me, too. At right you can see some of what kept me busy in the late afternoon and early evening yesterday — the bamboo flooring that we're having installed on Friday. I wanted to get it up here from the besement, unboxed, unwrapped, and stacked with spacers. Yeah, 600 pounds of flooring up two flights. Yay. But it needs to acclimatise to the space where it'll be installed, up here. So, there it is.
The estimator for the firm we use, Bugsy, of American Carpet Outlet, suggested that I could just get the boxes up out of the basement. But with humidity and air conditioning running, it's better being up here, as it's usually a good 10 degrees warmer here on the second floor, or 15 degrees on a sunny afternoon.
Good bye, Jim McKay. I have fond memories of Jim McKay's work with Wide World of Sports, and with his Olympic coverage. There's a good interview set up on YouTube. He was a class act. We're also going to miss Bo Diddley. He surely loved his music. Here's some, courtesy of YouTube.
Today, I work on BIND, always fun. Ciao!

2024 - Good evening. Well, that was interesting. No post last night because there was no power last night. At least, not for the computers. The generator paid for itself when the lightning storm took out the power, and the rain was bucketing down. Regular maintenance pays off - I opened the fuel line, turned on the switch, set the choke, gave one pull, and it fired right up. 15 minutes after the power was out, I was plugging in the sump pump. The sump was already 3/4 full. So, no flood, me happy. Then I called the BGE line, and they said that power would be back at 630 ... this evening. So I ran two more cords, to the freezer and fridge. As it turned out, the power came back just before midnight. I shut down the generator after a few minutes, coiled everything up, and called it a night. I'm still thinking that a battery-backed secondary pump might be a really, really good idea.
Tonight I've got to catch up on school work. Ciao!

2043 - Good evening. Ow. Ow. I really should get some ibuprofen and supper. But both home offices are empty, only hazmat carpets remaining. Tomorrow at 0700, the flooring crews show up. I don't expect they'll take a super-long time, so I'll be doing the shoe mold tomorrow (already here, and painted), and maybe starting to reassemble the offices. Not much more to report. Ciao!

2132 - Good evening. The flooring's in. Marcia's offise is partially back together. Mine has a bit more painting, and the shoe molding to go in before I can move furniture back in ... couple of days. Wow, am I ever tired. Tomorrow, I mow, paint, prep for Linda's birthday party (here), and hopefully that's it. G'night.

2050 - Good evening. No painting, no remodeling. Just breakfast, shopping, mowing, mowing, cooking, party. Happy Birthday, Linda!
Another Sunday, another (thankfully short) remembrance of those who have died in service in the last week. Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
