0912 - Good evening. A busy day. I still need to get the backups running, so I'll be brief-ish. Things I forgot: To set up the printer. Sigh. This is perhaps the worst habit I have when setting up new systems (or revised systems, in my case). I think I'm done, I walk away, but there's no printer configured. I was able to fix that, of course, but it's small consolation that I do to myself precisely what I do to others ... No Printing For You!!! In other news, Marcia and I selected a Maxfield Parrish print from AllPosters, for the wall above the Deco vase. Parrish predates Art Deco by a bit, but the styles have always seemed complementary to me. Any guesses which print we were able to agree on? Guesses welcome until the framed print arrives in about two weeks.
Okay. The backup is running. Time to get something else done. Oh, yeah, sign into class. Ciao!

2007 - Good evening. School work (online, still waiting for the book, but there's stuff I can do without the book), and work-work (updating 8 or so boxen to current while in the maintenance windows) ate the evening. Now I have to get the dogs out and in, then me to bed. Dentist's chair tomorrow at 0700 for a cleaning. Ciao!

2215 - Good evening. A sad day. I wasn't even awake, on the other coast, when the planes started crashing in. And, as Bob notes, we didn't know what to do. We used to know... But now what we know is an erosion of the rights of all Americans in the name of Security Theatre, and foreign wars that don't seem to be addressing the problem, for all the blood and treasure spent. Oh, well. There's a rock out there with our name on it, anyway.
I'm seeing more of those Smart cars (Mercedes Nano?) all the time around here. There was a bright blue one out on the beltway just the other day. Unfortunately my only thought was, "Two, one bank, corner pocket off the Hummer."

2018 - Good evening. I'd note that the program guides, including the electronic one that comes from our FiOS TV, don't show the upcoming special presentation I mentioned last night. That makes it difficult to program some DVRs. Persevere... We were watching another 9/11 show earlier in the day. So damned moving... We're recording it now. I'm not going to watch more today.
A successful day. Shopping, mowing and other yard work, a salsa-marinated roast on the barbeque (past tense, yum!), and a fresh batch of salsa. I still have to check in with my online course, and maybe take some headache meds. We'll see about that.
Of course, one of the reasons we're in Iraq is to execute a regime change that makes the place inhospitable as a terrorist base. While our troops do their damnedest, it's incumbent upon the policy makers to make smart strategic decisions to capitalize on gains won by our troops at the cost of some of their lives. (I speak to political Washington DC, now) They sacrifice and fight on our behalf. Grant them the boon of respecting their sacrifice, and stand up for what's right, not what's expedient or popular.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
