Welcome to Orb Graffiti, a place for me to write daily about life and computers. Contrary to popular belief, the two are not interchangeable.     About eMail - I publish email sometimes. 2059 - Good evening. Wow! I just tried to renew my IEEE membership for the coming year. One little problem. Their shopping cart thinks that today is August 20. That's a problem. So I veer off the shopping cart to see if there's any opportunity for quick feedback. There isn't. There is a member services form. That wants name, birth date, and membership number. Presumably the birth date validates the identity (though I'd much prefer a sekrit question that I can make up the answer to... Whoops! They want me to fill out this data and submit the form over HTTP? I don't think so. I guess I'll have to burn through a few of their 800-number dollars tomorrow and read them the riot act about online security and transaction dating. Sigh.

Chores are done, time to format Jerry's column into the CMR stylesheet. Ciao!

1900 - Good evening. It's dusk, and I've just finished barbequeing a batch of turkey burgers. Yeah, I know, but they're not so bland if you jazz them up a little bit. I've got to get the propane tanks refilled soon, too. While I don't often barbeque during the winter months, it's good to know that I could if the need arose, eh? Tonight, and tomorrow night, school work. Ciao!

1136 - Good evening. Thought for the day from Terry Pratchett's Hogfather:

One should always be wary of people who talk unashamedly of "fellowship and good cheer" as if it were something that can be applied to life like a poultice. Turn your back for a moment and they may well organize a maypole dance and, frankly, there's no option then but try and make it to the tree line.

Even bitter is funny, sometimes. Then, sometimes, bitter is just sad. Terry's battling his Alzheimer's in public, unlike most, and getting heard, which is awesome. Now, bedtime. Ciao!

1538 - Good afternoon. Last night was busy as we prepared for today's... Yard sale. No, no actual "yard" as such was for sale. But Marcia sold perhaps $150 in brick-a-brack and assorted stuff that's been boxed or made redundant around here. Had everything gone at marked prices, we'd have raked in perhaps $400, so this wasn't too bad. In other news, Lucy spent the morning at the doggy day spa (Columbia Kennels, in Seabrook), getting bathed and pruned. She's happy to be home, though. Now it's nap time. Ciao!

2023 - Good evening. Shopping and yardwork, a fairly typical Sunday. Linda dropped by for supper. I made chicken stir fry. Yum. Still have to check the school sessions tonight, though.

And duty calls. Five more lives given in service to American, to us all, as Americans. Our condolences to the families and units of our fallen heros.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
