2152 - I'm watching Walter Lewin play with Leyden jars, while winding down from the day. We're down to about 50° out, and it's cooling the house nicely. Not much else to report, I think I'll retire early. Ciao!

2029 - How reminiscient of that week 10 years ago. Then, I put a week's worth of postings together in a directory, in advance. I wrote a script to post them once a day, so that it would look like we were home, when we were in fact travelling. Instead the script deleted each day's "post" leaving me with nothing for the week posted, and not even the made-up week left behind to put up for shits and grins after we got home. Such is life. This week has been other than lacking in posts, utterly unlike that week. Most of the time I've been beating my head against a wall on an assignment in sequential circuit design for my CMIS class. Tonight, I've not done any of that, yet. I came home an hour early, and started working on the Fall maintenance for the front lawns. They're cut short, and I'm dethatching by hand. That's grueling work, worse than I thought. I'm less than a quarter of the way through, and that took over three hours. <whimper> I did get four 45 gallon bags full of yard waste (leaves and grass) from the mowing, and another three bags full dethatching. By the time I'm done, there should be 16 or 17 bags full to go for the green pickup.
I've got to go hose off now. Then I think I may watch the premier of Stargate: Universe. It's on the worst-branded "network", SyFy. Blech. But the show looks interesting. Ciao!

A dethatched front lawn |
2128 - I'm broken. 9 straight hours working on the front lawn today. At my rate, I could have bought someone's services to do that. But, since I don't actually get paid for doing such work, the effective "cost" was materials: about $60 so far. I've got fourteen bags of yard waste, and I still have to do the secondary mowing of the larger side (shown in the picture above).
Stargate: Universe was a two-hour premiere last night, which I didn't know. I ran out of steam at around 2220, so I finished watching the episode this evening on Hulu. I like it, I think. I certainly like it better than the shoot-em up Stargate versions that preceeded this series. Next Friday's episode finishes the three-hour initial story arc, so if you want to watch that, you might want to catch up first. v.tired, now. Ciao!

2203 - Oh, hey. It's Octogre already? So I finished up the front lawn work today, and took out the last dying tomatoes in back. I've got 18 bags of yard waste to put out on Wednesday. Lucky them... Sorry about the rush. I've been doing a study group thing, and it's been helpful in a number of ways, both in identifying errors that I've made in my work, and in better understanding through trying to explain concepts to others. That said, time to move along...
Our condolences this week go out to the families and units of the eleven men whose deaths were announced on the DoD website in the last week. Our thoughts and hopes for progress and a safe return home to all of our Armed Services members.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
