2017 - Of course, now that I've over-seeded the front lawn, there's precious little rain in the forecast. We'll see. The rumor for winter is a weak El Niño means cold and snow for the mid-Atlantic states. We'll see about that, too. It's Monday, and I'm in surprisingly decent shape considering the productive work over the weekend. It's fourteen hours after I dragged out of bed this morning, the work and chores are done, and it's time for school. Gotta roll, ciao!

2136 - Sigh. Sorry about that. There I was, minding my own business, when I saw an implication that I should have already rewritten my Writing Sample submission into something nearly suitable for Paper number one, and that had to be in today. Argh! Argh! Heaven save us from Professors of English (although this particular one has good reason for recent distraction, I hold her currently blameless). So I did other work, and also rewrote and submitted that last night.

I was up before the ass crack of dawn this morning, and had my ass planted in Terese's chair (she's our dental hygenist) at 0700. Yow! Good checkup, everything shiny and nice. Work was work, some progress made on a couple of fronts. Tonight, I've just finished formatting and posting Jerry's CMR column for October. Now here we are. I'm on call for the next week, too! I think I'm tired and ready to unwind. Ciao!

1941 - All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. And boy am I dull, Jack! I have so much I want to do, and so few hours in each day after the "must" list is completed. Speaking of which ... ciao!

2143 - I stayed busy yesterday. I did school work, both assignments and reading. I did some chores around the house, and got a few things done before the big event of the day, picking up Marcia at the airport. Yep, herself went to Michigan for a week to spend more time with family than the last two visits allowed. Since she gained an extra two weeks of vacation this year, it meant that she had the opportunity to travel while I didn't. Frankly, with the school work load as it is this semester, it'd have been difficult anyway.

Today, I tried to take the day off. I only did the shopping, washed the car, and finished my first of two required papers for the Computer Architecture course. Yeah, that's right, papers required for that math-and-design based course. Sigh. Multiculturalism and Historical Perspective are crucial to the understanding of the operation of computers. Right? Right? Anyway, besides all that, and roasting coffee, I've taken the day off. So far, I've read about half of Unseen Academicals, the latest Discworld book from Terry Pratchett. If you're looking for a fun read, get it and read it yourself - the book is a hoot, as usual for pTerry.

Having kept half an ear on the news, we already know it was a bad week in Afghanistan. We both made sure to say "Thank You!" to service members in transit while at the airport. It is important that if we do nothing else, we make sure that the men and women out at the pointy end of the stick understand how much we value and honor their service. We should all do that. I remain ashamed of us as a country for the way we allowed the soldiers from the Vietnam era to be treated. Our men and women in uniform ROCK! Our deepest condolences to the units and families of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
