0743 - Good morning. Sorry to startle y'all. I'm up with the birds because while it isn't a work day, it's a work day. That is, while my $FIRM follows the Federal holiday schedule (mostly), I'm on call. So there were a couple of tasks that needed doing for our commercial customers who don't take Columbo Day off. I'll take care of the weekend's mail load, too, to make tomorrow easier. Also in today's queue: shedloads of school work. Back to Jack. And back later...

1706 - I have three words for you.
Molly.
Explosive.
Incontinence.
Yeah, puppy isn't feeling good, since about 3 AM Wednesday morning, when she scored all over the master bedroom carpet. By the time I was done cleaning carpets, it was about 0430. So, a short night's sleep for me Tuesday night. She made it through the night last night, by asking to go out at around 0200. Today, mid-afternoon, she cut loose in Marcia's office, and in the hall. Sigh. I hared home from work, and cleaned carpets again. Marcia's taking the mutt to the vet now. Ciao!

1910 - Not much new to report. I put Molly out three times again during the night. Today, I baked chocolate chocolate chip cookies, and made one tray with minced peppers. Mmmm. Hot chocolate chocolate chip cookies. Tonight, Linda is over, I made stir fry. Now, time for schoolwork.

Orange Poppy Seed Bundt Cake |
1632 - Today, shopping. And I made an orange poppy seed bundt cake from the Silver Palate Cookbook. Both cookies and cake are destined for tomorrow's $FIRM monthly birthday celebration. I sort of volunteered our department for doing the honors, so I'd best turn up with goods (err, goodies)... Heh, I like the caption on Marcia's calendar for this month. "Every year for Hallowe'en I pretend to be the same thing: Not At Home!"
In other "pretending to be" news, the weather has been pretending to be Seattle this week - it's rained pretty much full time since Tuesday afternoon. Not too many downpours, but blending back and forth between drizzle and light rain has brought us over three inches in the last 5 days. Yow!
While we wait for the decision from POTUS on whether to put another 40K troops in the field in Afghanistan, the men and women already in the combat theatre work their asses off in dangerous conditions to try and do the right thing by the Afghan people. For instance, Staats and Green died in their thirteenth month of deployment. They "were part of an agricultural and business team, educating Afghani farmers about planting methods, new crops and pest management." I can't imagine how grateful the Afghan people must be, having the Taliban there to protect them from education and a full belly. Bastards. Our condolences to the families and units of these fallen warriors.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
