1209 - Still terribly busy. Sigh. It may even get worse before it gets better. Ciao!

1727 - Blargh! School last night. Shopping and school tonight. School all day (while it rains) tomorrow. Work tomorrow night. Work Sunday morning. Etc, etc. Sorry, there are interesting things to report on, but precious little time in which to do so. More tomorrow, with any luck at all... Ciao!

1549 - Many of my problems with school these days are ones of scope. Here's an example conference problem that I replied to today:

Write short segment of a program using the instructions in table 6-1 in Mano. The segment should include a call to a subroutine and the subroutine itself.

I write a simple spec so that I have a target in mind ... What I finally submit is 100 lines of assembler. It's probably right, but we have no compiler for this imaginary machine. And it's roughly 8X the size of the minimum requirement for the question. Now, on to the next chapter! Ciao!

1646 - In case I wasn't busy enough, I've got four straight days of training at LISA in Baltimore next Sunday through Wednesday: Linux and Solaris. So I'm striving to get a bit of a lead on my UMUC classes. I finished my second paper for the writing class today, then wrote the "Formal Outline" from the finished paper, since I don't do outlines. I also did the other supporting material, including the letter of submission. I'm going to continue, tonight, to work on the CMIS course work. I really should go cut up that pork loin, though, and get that into the freezer. But first...

I note that DoD has announced a plan to provide extra compensation for service members who were extended via stop loss. There's a news story here. I note that the thoughtful folks at DoD with computers that already know who was extended and due this money are still making the service members apply on their own. I assume (being cynical and all) that its because some percentage of service members won't hear about it and won't apply. Jerks. Just figure it out and give the guys at the pointy end of the stick their money, alright? Our condolences this week (as every week) to the families and units of our fallen warriors.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
