1948 - In a post on /. today, a user going by the moniker of eldavojohn penned this: "... In possibly related news, rumors are circulating of the Obama administration cutting NASA's budget by ten percent for fiscal year 2011 despite the success of Monday's Atlantis launch. Considering the Augustine panel's recommendations, such a cut could halt US human space flight for a decade." Yah, sure, as long as you stop flying so that you don't have to fire any bureaucrats... Sigh.

I'm a bit caught up. But then I read a new conference topic in my writing class where the requirements for the final research paper contradict two prior statements of the requirements. Argh! I *hate* it when instructors make me call them out. Somehow, that doesn't work out so well. Sigh, again.

I've had dinner, the dogs have had dinner, Marcia's out at a meeting, and I've got to get some work (school) done before it's time to get some work (business) done, between 2030 and 2100. Ciao!

2029 - Work was work. Once home, I roasted some more coffee (Mmmmm, Ethiopian), and then had some of that "It isn't delivery..." pizza for supper (with enough leftovers for breakfast, errrr lunch tomorrow). After that, and dishes, I was wandering around the main floor of the house, wondering what was next on the agenda. My inside voice escaped, a bit:

Hmmm, it's a bit chilly. [Looks at thermostat] Seventy? It doesn't feel like seventy! Seems much colder ... to me ... in shorts and a tee shirt ... in November. Grumble.

And seventy seems high — maybe it was the influence of the oven heating the pizza, because it wasn't but just above 60 today outside, and no sun at all. The thermostat settings range between 62 and 67, depending on time of day.

I should write tonight, but I think I'll procrastinate on that a bit. Saturday I'll write the bulk of the first draft of my final paper for 101. The outline is in place, and it seems doable to me (if a bit ambitious in the view of the instructor). I did get most of the introduction written last night. One more paragraph ought to lay sufficient groundwork to guide the reader through the paper with ease and grace.

So now, some Dragon Age. As Wil put it, "-10 to productivity." Ciao!

2208 - Wrote a thousand words and added four or five more references to my paper tonight. Right now, the page count is 3.5 to prose, and 1.5 to references. Whew. Time to rest. Tomorrow, I'll finish the first draft, and work on the final assignment for the CMIS class. G'night.

2204 - Full draft of the last Writing 101 paper is completed. I'd not feel bad if this was the one that was turned in. But there's a peer-editing stage yet to go, so I expect it to change some. Nearly 1700 words and 2 pages of APA-styled references. As is often the case, I write, then I say, "Oh. That needs a reference." So I go searching in the UMUC library databases, or on Google, and find something appropriate. Or I find something that contradicts the direction I'm going and makes me re-write that section (but that's good, too). Plenty of work left in both courses, more's the pity. I've got one assignment due next week for CMIS, and the final is on the first Saturday of December. The Writing final isn't until mid-month. I'd also better start looking into what I need to sign up for next semester. Happy weekend, ciao!

1800 - Wow. Busy day spent sitting. Got done what needed getting done, though. Plenty more to do, but I'm looking forward to a couple weeks off school, around the Christmas holidays.

As our nation's blood spills in external conflicts, we can only hope that our young men and women who sacrifice so much for our nation get to come home sometime soon. Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
