2122 - A day spent battling computers, heavier than usual. Rather, the computers expressed their hatred of me in stronger terms than usual. My daily workflow depends on saving emails to my Linux system and running assorted tools against the contents to determine whether anything needs doing or not. But when IMAP comms to the @#(*&${ Exchange server are borked beyond the beyond, I am stuck. I could get and read my email, yes. All I needed to do for that was use rdesktop to login to the Windows system I use when that tool is called for. But on a Monday, I have 40 or more messages that need on-system processing. It took a couple of hours work, but finally we stopped and started the Exchange IMAP service, and everything came back. Then I got my work done.
This evening: checks are written to pay the bills, trash is at the curb, the weekly offsite backup is completed, the shoes are shiny, and I've just finished formatting Jerry's mailbag for the web, and posted it, along with last minute modifications. Whew, busy day.

2157 - Mostly schoolwork, is all. Nothing else of interest to report except snow inbound for the next day or so. Not much forecast, but then the numbers have been known to change. Time to wake the dog and take her outside for a bit. Ciao!

1914 - Boring, boring, boring. Nothing new under the sun to report, nor under the constant winds and snow flurries that plagued us all day. I wish I had the spare time to do and write about fun and interesting things, but they're fewer and farther between. I *do* need to take better notes, though. The occasional random thought during the working day might turn into a decent post or mini-project worthy of reportage, but only if I jot it down or otherwise remember it. Oh, I finished reading Charles Stross's Glasshouse last week. Interesting and fun read, with scenes of special interest for the Prisoner fans among us. I've now got The Mote in God's Eye and The Gripping Hand stacked in for light late-evening reading. Be seeing you!

2021 - A weekend full of schoolwork and remodeling. The floors in both rooms are fully prepared. In the next week, I plan on finishing all of the wall prep, and hope to prime everything on Saturday next. Then, color coats on the ceiling, and on down the walls. Finally, flooring and quarter round goes in. Oh, yeah, the flooring is ordered. Home Depot had the carbonized bamboo similar to the material we had installed in our offices on offer for about 30 cents less a square foot than Lumber Liquidators. And free shipping to boot (our poor UPS guy's back, though...). So that's on order and should be here with plenty of lead time to acclimate before installation in a few weeks.
I have to admit to a twinge of the surreal. While I take care of this sad duty I've imposed upon myself, Jonathan Coulton's cover of Sir Mix-a-lot's Baby Got Back is piping through the speakers. Zo-oo-owick! Okay, I'm back. Our condolence to the families and units of each fallen warrior.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
