2125 - Well. Very tired, I'm afraid. We picked up Linda at BWI last night, and ferried her home. We got to bed shortly after 0200. So, short sleep, long day. And yesterday evening got far too exciting - I was running backups after doing the bills, and the external drive started failing out with IO errors. Hmmm. A WD drive, six or so years old ... not too surprising. But I decided to deep-reboot the system, on the off chance that fixed things up (as often it does). In this case, rather the opposite occurred. No boot at all, just unhappy blinking lights on the motherboard. Hmmm.

I guessed that the problem was the power supply, but didn't have an appropriate spare. And, the deep fear, did the power supply take motherboard, CPU, RAM with it? Nothing for it but to try. So I picked up a new high-end Antec power supply at Staples on the way home this afternoon. Glory be, the problem is fixed! So that's good news. I have some pictures, too, but I'm not going to battle with getting them off the camera right now. I've got a bit of remote work to do in half an hour, then I'll be out like a light. Ciao!

2110 - And no particular reason for a post last night, either. Work continues. Life continues. My secondary goal for the holiday weekend is to get the garden watering systems set up. My primary goal for the weekend is to enjoy celebrating our twelfth wedding anniversary. Yay, us!

2226 - We're having a lovely anniversary weekend, thanks for all your kind thoughts. That's mostly what's occupied my time the last couple of days, that plus the normal stuff like lawns, etc. We spent all of yesterday doing assorted fun stuff together: shopping, dining out, dining in, movie, and such. Today, our actual twelfth anniversary, was a much more normal Sunday, activity-wise, until mid-afternoon, when we headed out to a Memorial Day gathering at Susan and David's place. Fun crowd, great food, wonderful hosts! Thanks, y'all! Now Lexi is howling at something only she can hear, sigh. Still, tomorrow is Memorial Day.

In a sense, every day is Memorial Day, because hardly a day goes by that I don't think of the men and women who fight and sometimes die for America. They do us great honor by their sacrifice, the least we can do is honor their work, their duty, their gift to us... Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
