2103 - Work and chores and work. The ride doesn't end until the darkness at the end. That's life. But in the meantime, there's lightning, and thunder, and perhaps three inches of rain in the last four days, after weeks of nothing. I'm sure the lawns are dumbfounded. Now, to work on a new site page for a different project... Ciao!

2157 - Whew! A busy day, followed by a busy evening. The latter: a column to review, then format from Pournelle. That's online now. Then I did the deep tech review on the Extreme System chapter from Bob, followed by quick refresh passes on the second version of three other chapters. Ciao!

2200 - Tonight's been all about the dogs. That's how it goes, sometimes. Ciao!

2152 - More work for Jerry this evening - a supplement to the July column is now up. Next, I went through a second pass on two more chapters for Bob. Then I signed up for classes for Fall: WRTG 394 - Advanced Business Writing; and CMIT 425 - Advanced Network Security. The latter is really just a CISSP prep course, which isn't a bad thing at all. In a few minutes, I've got a bit of remote work to do at the office. Then I can have supper. It's a great life, as long as the music doesn't stop when there isn't a chair behind my ass. Ciao!

2109 - Well, I'm four for four on my on-call week this month. Only last night wasn't a page from a confused computer. Instead, it was an olfactory alert from Molly's middle-of-the-night poo incident. The clean-up was trivial. The going-back-to-sleep ... that took some time. Today, shopping, followed by mowing, followed by cooling down, and supper out with Marcia and Linda. I did get both dogs walked just now, and we should be good for a poo-free night tonight. That news has to be good enough. Does it mean I get a page tonight? Probably. Such is life.

And then there were twenty more, gone from this place. Our casualty counts continue to remain relatively high, an interesting development considering that we're planning on departing and putting security in Afghan hands in about a year. The upside is, at least they won't be shooting at our folks after that time, at least in the short term. They'll be too busy assassinating all the people who cooperated with us. Did you really think it would end any other way? Sad, though. Our condolences to the families and units of these fallen warriors:

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
