2122 - All the Monday stuff, plus Pournelle's column done. Now to install the "Lab" software that accompanies my Network Security (CISSP) class. The joys of student life... Ciao!

2317 - This CISSP Network Security class is supported by some multimedia presentation/testing software called LabSim. It has many special features, like the text read to me in a video by a cert-drone who has all the personality of Ben Stein in FBDO. The quizzes ask questions from sections other than the one you're studying. But best of all ...

Worst. Proofreading. Ever.

"The best security is provided by defense and depth." Um, yeah. And then there's this phrase: "highest source of truth". Yeah, again. That's in support of the Integrity leg of the CIA triad. I guess that the highest source of truth must have inhaled. Or maybe it's Lindsey? Hmmm.

Cube-droids: don't follow this link. It's a flash game, and it will depress you beyond tears. As I commented to the person who passed this into my consciousness, "Needs more chainsaws."

Tonight, Marcia was elsewhere obliged. I fed and walked the dogs, checked in with a neighbor with a computer problem, did some remote work at the office, and roasted coffee. Whew. Ciao!

Busy again.....

2218 - Busy yesterday: after work, I left home again right away to take Molly to an appointment at the vets. She's got a pendular growth under her left front, and it's starting to trouble her. Our options there aren't good, because she's not a good candidate for anesthesia, and it's a bad place to do work on her with just a local. So we're going the antibiotic route, in hopes that it'll calm the thing enough to make it liveable. That, and she's wearing a t-shirt now, to keep from worrying at it with teeth and tongue.

Matt and Sarah dropped by last night on their way to a vacation destination. Out to supper last night with them, then I cooked breakfast for us all this morning. Then they left, having spent all the time at the Bilbrey B&B that they were going to, this time around. The balance of my day has been helping neighbor Tim get his shiny new Dell computer fettled, and working in the woodshop on the coffee table project. Only the stretchers are left to fabricate - I cut, shaped, routed, sanded, and assembled the the main legs today, as well as doing the miter cuts for the top. It's coming together. Tomorrow, though, the legs get a coat of finish, and that's it. Most of the day tomorrow goes to schoolwork.

Now, to shower and to bed. Ciao!

Mon    Tues    Wed    Thu    Fri    Sat    SUNDAY
September 26, 2010

2044 - G'day! Well, fairly good. I got many things done, including rereading the syllabus for my current class, and found that what I thought was due today isn't due until tomorrow. And now it's done, and I'm happy about that, too. So I did a bit more woodworking, along with walking the dogs and other regular Sunday stuff.

Sadly, a long list of sacrifice on the part of our armed forces on our behalf this week, reported by DoD. One thing I keep wondering ... As I transcribe these lives lost from the DoD site, I wonder why the press folks there think it's okay to abbreviate the name of the warrior's home state, while spelling out Afghanistan in full every time. Hell, people, electrons are cheap: honor our folks by making the effort. Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
