ME: Here, I'm bringing you some cheese. DOG: My bowl, I turn it upside down for you. ME: WTF? DOG: Where is my bowl with cheese in it?

2035 - That pretty well describes life with Molly. On the downside, the growth that's been troubling her wasn't bothered, itself, by the antibiotics at all. So this becomes a quality of life issue - it bothers Molly, she frets with it, it bothers her more. And it's draining nearly all the time now. So, even though she's got impaired liver function, we're going to take a shot at surgery, this Friday. We hope she comes home...

I applied another coat of Danish oil tonight, after rubbing out last night's coat with some #0000 steel wool. Tomorrow I'll apply some "feet" to the piece, enough to protect the wood while I apply further finish and elbow grease to the upper surfaces. Then a few days cure and some wax to top it up nicely. No polyurethane.

Now, reading for school. Ciao!

2057 - Trusted systems. Security assurance. Orange Book and Rainbow Series. Common Criteria. My brain explodes, film at 11. Ciao!

2219 - Sorry. Continuing brain explosions. Seriously. Personally, this course seems inane and useless, with no value beyond rote memorization of acronyms and facts that can be tested. But it's on the requirements for this degree. So there you go. I've been at it for hours this evening, and need to get away from this machine. Ciao!

2152 - ... but Molly's fine, thanks for asking. Had I been a thoughtful host, I would have said so, here, yesterday. But frankly, I was whacked. Not much sleep this week, between Molly and being on call. I *always* sleep very lightly when on call, habit in order to not miss an event. Molly's surgery went fine - instead of full anesthesia, they pre-sedated her, then just went with a local instead. She was woozy and wobbly after I got her home yesterday, but today she's been fine. We're really very glad about that. She's a good dog.

I have finished the coffee table project. Pictures next week, after it's been unveiled to the bloke I've been doing this for. You're welcome... The final finish is, as previously noted, wax. Specifically, SC Johnson Paste Wax. One coat on all the surfaces, buffed out. Then two more coats on the walnut upper surfaces. It really looks great. This is certainly the nicest piece of furniture I've ever made, and that pleases me. I ended up skipping the feet. Russ can add them if needed depending on what sort of surface the table's going to rest on. I might go with felt pads for resting on hardwood, or some nylon nail-in feet for placement on a carpet.

Out to supper tonight with Joe Don and Mary Grace for steaks at the Texas Roadhouse. Um, yum, nom, nom. Digesting now, hard to keep eyes open. I think I'll wave off now. Ciao!

2044 - Middle-of-the-night network event, shopping, napping, and rubbing out the table started and finished my day. Pictures of the table on Tuesday. Supper tonight was grilled teriyaki-marinated pork chops, and freshly killed macaroni and cheese. The white sauce base was much browner, because I only have whole wheat flour on hand. Still yummy.

Our condolences to the families and units of these fallen warriors:

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
