2215 - Chores last night, schoolwork all this evening - writing an employment submission package as my assignment this week. Fun because I don't often job hunt, and it also makes me appreciate my current employer all the more. Bed now, ciao!

1058 - Fixed posting last night's mini entry into today. Back later. Ciao!
2114 - There's a script in my download folder: Sparkly Death Ponies. Go find out why and how, you know you want to. On the reality side of the equation, more writing, more work (and more of the latter, since I'm on-call again. A week later than normal since I swapped weeks with someone so that we could go to Lancaster last weekend. Yes, I'm still looking at the D7000 from Nikon. But no, not this year. I don't have time for a new hobby. By the time I do, a whole new crop of nice cameras will be on the market. But maybe a D3100... no. No. No time. When there is time, I have projects. So, no. Now, I have stuff to do. Ciao!

2224 - Veterans Day. Honor them, thank them, be proud of them - their job is to protect us and our way of life, even if some people think our way of life isn't worth protecting. THANK YOU!!!
Veterans Day is also a Federal holiday, and one of those that my firm observes. So, schoolwork, a couple of hours worth of remote work, cleaning the kitchen, washing the car, more schoolwork - overall, a full, full day. Ciao!

2150 - So that's a new one. Some versions of named.conf (the main configuration file for the DNS server, BIND) have a bogon ACL configured in the default setup. That's great, in theory, because bogons are not just the RFC1918 address spaces, but also the IANA unallocated ranges, from which traffic should not be emitting to poison your DNS server. Um, wait... unallocated? Unallocated IPv4 space? Not much of that left, what happens when some of those bogon ranges are allocated? Oh, yeah. If you're a BIND server so configured, you drop their queries. Yay? You're certainly secured from being contacted by, like, customers, for example. So, if you're going to use a bogon ACL in your bind setup, set a monthly reminder to refresh your bogon filter with data from this source at CYMRU. Thanks, guys. Oh, and distros? You listening? Put a comment in about use of the bogon ACL. Please?
Work was work, today. Apparently work was at home, too, since Molly decided to deposit presents around the house while Marcia was walking Lexi. So, excitement abounds! Now, aches, sneezing, blowing of nose? Theraflu and bed for me. Ciao!

2102 - And no excuse, either. I stayed busy, just not in here. Today, a new phone for Marcia, lots of attention for the dogs, some shopping and some cooking. Now, befor the next thing (and Billy Joel: Allentown is on the speakers. Song gets to me) ...
Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen warriors reported this week by DoD.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
