0758 - Sigh. Time keeps slipping away from me. And the interesting stuff I work on at work, I don't talk about ... policy. So last night was interesting - I finished up my re-reading assignment (reading is assigned, I also re-read) and answered questions on Napoleon, Jomini, and von Clausewitz. Of the three, von Clausewitz appeals most to me in his style, clarity, and grounding in reality. Napoleon was no slouch (and no writer, either - others documented his work), but the right man at the right time and place made his brilliance shine much more. Jomini I see as a climber and a bit of a dilettante, though he certainly worked at his viewpoint.
I also got around, finally, to sharpening my little carry knife - it wasn't fit for cutting butter. So I honed the folding blades back to sharp, and cleaned up the knife. Much better. Now, supper and walk for the dog. Ciao!

XXXX - Holy crap. I totally sucked this week, eh? I can't even say it was Superb Owl fever or, or anything. I've stayed busy, I'll give you that.
Six years ago today, I began recognize in my Sunday posts our losses in Afghanistan and Iraq. In the interim, we've seen all of Bush II's second term, and half of Obama's term. We're winding down in Iraq, apparently having accomplished ... something useful. We have a termination of operations goal in Afghanistan, which I believe has greatly heartened our enemies there, and giving our "friends" reason to doubt their longevity after our departure. The mission is what it is, and regardless of my opinions on the topic, one cannot doubt the resolve and courage of our fine fighting men and women. They do us all honor. Our condolences to the families and units of these fallen warriors.
