0639 - Good morning. Still dead, I'm sad to report. No, not dead as in rotting, just dead as in reptilian in a cold climate, ache from exertion. It'll get better as I get farther into my spring/summer routine (and as the heavy-lifting type of chores wrap up for another year. I've one more large bed out front to weed and mulch, and a couple in back. That and Marcia's off on Wednesday to Atlanta for a couple of days. She'll be back with Jen on Friday, Judy's going away party is here on Saturday night, then next week Marcia's in Kansas for the Quilt show. We're in the busy time. Hey, does Ice Cream count as a vegetable or a fruit? Anyway, I've gotta run - done nothing interesting since yesterday's post with pictures, have a great day!

0539 - Good morning. About yesterday ... well, it got away from me. I was building a kickstart server for some RHEL3, Update 4 eval servers. In with that there were meetings, getting Windows SBS 2003 backup solutions lined up, and so on. When I got home, Marcia and I went out to supper to have a little quiet time together before she goes out on her newest set of road trips. You can see that we're getting an early start on this day, too. I'm shooting to get her dropped at BWI for the Atlanta trip by 0630. Then I'm going to build three servers from that kickstart setup and continue with the SBS setup.

We're trying to design some network security into place around that server, but I'm still of a mind to leave it unplugged. Either that or drop the 1U Dell 1650 platform on the desk of the person driving the requirements, and say "Here's your server. I'm not going to pretend to maintain a secure network while this is touching the Internet, what are you going to do with it?" In reality, we'll probably mediate access to the services by VPN only, from outside or inside. When we stand it up for real, it'll be as secure as I can make it, and until I think that it's so, then it won't go into service. Sound like a plan?

On the Ice Cream front, I've got three votes in by email. Svenson (who's also working pretty darned hard these days) splits his view, depending on whether we're talking about Strawberry Ice Cream or Tomato Ice Cream. Don Armstrong made strong arguments for considering it to be either or even both, and suggests that as such, it's the perfect food! Willem Jager sez that unless it's Broccoli Ice Cream, then it's a fruit. I presume, Willem, that Garlic Ice Cream counts as a vegetable, too?

I've also been having fun with hardware here on the home front - it turns out that the problem is bloody old APC units biting me in the ass. I could get the good stuff, but I'm tempted at this time to just buy new APC's for the computers. These particular units are probably 5 years old or more. That's a long run out of two of those BackUPSs.

Time to roll. Wave bye to Marcia, she'll be back soon enough. Ciao!

0623 - Good morning. Marcia's safe in Atlanta, in meetings all day today. Yesterday on the way home I picked up an APC XS 1500 and 12 more bags of red cedar mulch. I got the other front planting bed weeded out and mulched, and put that APC in play running 3 computers and a monitor along with sundry small bits. Today I've got a bunch of short tasks to get to at the office, so I'd best be about it. Have a great day!

2052 - Good evening. A micro-post ... I've been a busy beaver. Work has gone well, the dogs are happy and the house is clean-ish. Marcia and Jen fly in to BWI in about an hour and a quarter, so I've supper and other things to do before I head over to fetch them.

Daynotes.org is dead. I didn't get/see any renewal notice, and the price to renew at the registrar is prohibitive, so we're going to let it go. Use Daynotes.net or Daynotes.com, whichever suits your fancy. I'll be repeating this message for a while until everyone's heard.

Gotta run, wish me luck. Ciao!

0948 - Good morning. I'm awake, I'm awake. But we're out of milk and I want some with breakfast! Back later after that, and some outside chores.

2241 - Howdy. A good day, lots accomplished, more details tomorrow. Ciao!

1037 - Good morning. The big event was yesterday. Well, the medium, err, small event, anyway. Judy is leaving for California, taking her husband and dad with her. It is her job here in Maryland that Marcia has got, while Judy picks up new responsibilities back at the home office in the Bay Area. Marcia wanted to throw Judy a going away party, and we invited perhaps 14 or 16 people. Between cancellations and no-shows, there were a total of six last night. But a good time was had by all.

Today Marcia starts prepping for her trip to the AQS Show at Paducah. We're getting up at 0430 Tuesday morning to get her to the airport. Bloody wonderful timing there, kiddo! Then she'll be back late next Sunday so we can spend a few hours of my birthday together.

The war goes on in Iraq and Afghanistan, and our soldiers continue to stand in harm's way...

My thanks to the soldiers, and my condolences to the families and friends of the fallen.

Time for more chores. Have a great day!

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
