XXXX - Good morning. There I was, minding my own business, quietly formatting the mailbag for Jerry's CMR site, when the phone rings. The IP provider has lite the fuse, and we can give another try for the changes that we failed to get assistance on the night before. Before all was said and done, all the changes required were working, though not without further screwups on the part of the vendor, making a one hour process last three. Bastards.

I was home by 0030, and back up and on my way to the office by 0700. Huzzzzzzzah! Not much more to report at the moment, catch you later.

A bale of basilTomatoes, peppers and squash2220 - Good evening. Ahem. Sorry about that. I was busy working on VPN related goo, and on formatting the column last night. So I didn't have a chance to get these pictures up, from the weekend's garden harvest. Can you say wow? I know that I've never seen a bale of basil before. Most of that is in the fridge, waiting for me to turn it into pesto and freeze it tomorrow night. The balance is hanging in the garage, drying ... or rotting, I can't tell which. I suppose I ought to look up how to dry herbs on this new-fangled Internets thing.

Meantime, over on Magickthyse, I'm installing Ubuntu in VMware Server. Yeah, I know, I'm installing Ubuntu in ... Ubuntu. There's a good reason, mostly to do with how OS X handles X forwarding. Sometimes well, sometimes less so. There are other things I can try, but this is sick fun. I've got a couple of new distributions to muck about with, too, and report on, when time permits. Maybe this weekend...

Ooooooh! I've got an email FROM MR.BARRY LEONARD. Do you suppose he has millions to offer me? Let's see: He claims to be a Chief Auditor with a London Bank. Do you suppose... no. Right. No. But 12 and a half million Sterling ... No. Right. But there was an airplane crash ... No. Right. Okay. I've deleted it from the trash folder, where it was autosorted to begin with. I was just checking that through for false positives.

Okay. A couple of things left to do, and I'd like to be a'bed by 2300. Ciao!

0803 - Good morning. No, I don't know where the time gets to. I continue to remain quite busy, both at the office and at home ... and the time just flows. I am continuing to fight with decent connectivity to the office, since I choose not to use Windows as a primary home OS. That's been a big chunk of my "off" hours this week - exploring assorted ways to get the remote connection working well enough that I can do all of the remote administration tasks that might be needed at the drop of a hat. I may have just figured it out. Now, it's the last day of the month, so Marcia's busier than a one-armed paperhanger. So I'm going to run some errands for her, and check into work from here, from time to time. See y'all around...

1611 - Good afternoon. A somewhat lazy day spent putzing with computers. Marcia went out to a fabric store today, looking for stuff to make baby clothes for the new grandniece that'll be due sometime next spring. In addition, she's trying to help plan a shower for her niece Faye, who is recently engaged. Tonight we'll order in, and maybe watch a movie or play a game. The excitement we have... I tell you. Anyway, see you tomorrow.

1142 - Good morning. This quiet Labor Day weekend continues at a snail's pace. It's sunny, but not too warm, and there's a whole lot of nothing going on. One small blessing - this is the last weekend for the community pool run by the HOA. Since a large number of litterbugs traverse our front yard during the course of the open pool hours, dropping assorted trash along the way, I never really regret that it's only open from Memorial Day to Labor day. I'm not doing jack-all, in honor of the holiday. Next weekend or the one thereafter, I'll close out the garden for the year. That'll probably take me two weekends, one to clean stuff out, shred it, and turn it into the mulch heap. Then I'll purchase some amendments and turn those into the garden boxes. I may also get some more landscape fabric, and cover the beds for the winter. Either that, or I'll put in a nitrogen-fixing fall crop - I'm looking at clovers right now...

And the beat goes on in the Middle East. There are rumors about Iran floating about in the news, too. But my focus is on our troops, and on the sacrifices they make on our behalf, in the course of their duty to freedom and country. My hat's off to all of our serving troops. My condolences to the families and units of our fallen heros...

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
