2149 - Good evening. Once all the other Monday stuff was done, I sanded out yesterday's wall spackling and did touchup on a few of the larger holes left by full-sized molly bolts. Then I spent the rest of the bucket of spackle putting a cover-coat over the patch where the medicine cabinet was. I'll get some more tomorrow, and do that one more time. It should sand out to fairly true when I'm done. Wednesday night, I've got set aside for priming. As long as I can't find any bad flaws looking at the walls after that, I'll start with color coat on Thursday night, at least in the alcove where the vanity goes. I've got high gloss white to go on the trim, semigloss to light-coat the walls, and we picked a sandy brown color "Granite" paint for the alcove. I'm making a big push to get this mini-project done before school starts. It won't happen, but it's worth trying.

1928 - Good evening. Not much of interest to report. Let's see ... I learned this week that when I try to run both RHEL 5.1 Xen (with a -xen kernel) and VMware Server 1.0.4, things go badly. I can configure a new VMware VM, but when I try to start the VM, the system reboots. I count that as bad. The Xen stuff by itself works like a champ - and Red Hat's licensing of the VM's populated with a RH OS is pretty reasonable.
Can baseball fix its drug problem without congressional intervention?
That's the poll question on CNN just now. Wrong question, though. Does Congressional interference mean anything, effect any real change, in Baseball? Naw. There's always going to be new drugs. What happens when there's gene therapy applied to embryos? Is it going to be illegal to be a professional athelete if both of your parents were? The more things we can keep away from Congress, the happier we'll all be.
It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.

2115 - Good evening. Smells like paint. Primer to be precise. The wall was flat enough. All of the patched areas are primed, as is the new trim up in the skylight, and the entire alcove where the non-white paint is going to go - I wanted an even, good surface for that paint. Nothing else going on, nor energy for it to go on with.

2203 - Good evening. Work, then painting, second day in a row. Last night I painted the skylight "tunnel" and the ceiling. Today, all the white walls. Tomorrow, accent color. Tired. Paint fumes. Ciao.

New paint and lights |
1721 - Good (late) afternoon. I've stayed busy enough away from the computer that posting has suffered. Sorry about that. Yesterday I got the texture/color coat up on the walls that had it coming. Later on, I hauled the vanity upstairs and started planning how I want to trim it out. Then I took a break from that and put up the new light fixture. THEN I found out that the old light fixture wasn't centered. So the new one isn't centered either. Had I known, I might have thought of moving the wiring... then probably thought better of it. Maybe not. This way, I'm centering everything (vanity, mirror, sink) under the lights, and I'll put some shelving up on the left hand side. But first I have to come up with a stain combination that fairly closely matches the finish of the cabinet. I've got a couple samples of that curing now.
I heard from an Army mom the other day, writing to let me know that she's waiting for our losses in the mideast to come to an end, too. It's too late for her boy, who was killed in action last November. It's important to remember that Army moms make sacrifices, too - they give their children into the service of our country. Some of those men and women aren't coming home this week, either.
My condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
