2149 - Yesterday: work, chores, and Jerry's column. Today, work, and coming down with the bug I thought I'd evaded on Sunday. Tickle in the throat, head stuffing up, bleah. Of course it's four days until Christmas! Zicam is my friend, so is TheraFlu. Now, Sleep On!

1625 - Sore throat Tuesday into Wednesday. Flip to head cold, through last night. Now the cold's moving into my chest, I'm figuring on pneumonia tomorrow and Ebola by Christmas. But there's good news:
Yay? Ciao!

2147 - And no Ebola, either. Not even pneumonia. As of yesterday, I seem to have been on the mend. I still have a horrid cough, but that's only to be expected, and doesn't hurt nearly as bad as it sounds. We had a nice little Christmas celebration. Linda Rose's folks shipped pressies to us, and she came over and spent Christmas Eve with us. We did the unwrapping bit that night, instead of after Santa transubstantiated the gifts. But still, they were cool. I got ... clothes, books, a couple of gift cards. Marcia got a Build-a-Bear from Linda Rose, and a quilting book (and a couple of muscle cars) from me. No, really, muscle cars: an Impala and a Charger, both 60's vintage ... die cast models. Sorry, that's it. And if you asked for a Ferrari from me sometime this holiday season, you already know what you're getting next year, eh? For Christmas breakfast, I made us bacon and eggs and pancakes. I enjoyed the latter with some of the Michigan maple syrup that we got from Rich and Lorrie last year. Yum!
Last night (still Christmas Day, no?) and this morning, I completed my Linux system updates for the month - it only sucks a little bit that my maintenance window this month fell on the holiday. It's not like we can travel during December — end-of-fiscal-year means Marcia's triple busy. They're claiming that she doesn't have to work on the 31st, though. I'll believe that when I see it. Last year she worked past midnight (because the year still hadn't ended, on the other coast).
I'd actually asked Santa for a week with no casualties to report. Clearly, I should have asked for a pony instead (Universal Peace) that I might have received the "no casualties" bike instead. Sigh. Sucks enough to be a warrior far from family for the holidays, but ... Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
