1305 - Good morning... err, afternoon. Work is, and busy is better than bored, but a little boredom now and then wouldn't be a bad thing. See ya!

1908 - Good evening. My, how time flies when you're having fun. Oh, and in other news, it's much harder to dodge fecal matter when you're downwind of the rotating knives, err, blades, uh, fan. Nothing actually bad happening at work, we're just bloody busy and I've too many balls in the air. I think, however, that I've got cups ready under most of the likely landing zones. So I'm not worried, just interested in my predictive powers at this point. I'm also in revisions on my PF firewall ruleset. While I can actually do this, it's apparently not recommended to bandwidth throttle Windows users down to 56Kb outbound on a T1, then offer them OpenBSD when they say things are moving at a glacial pace. But it's tempting.

I am a little concerned about my proposed return to school. I've not got bunches of free time now, and I'm wondering where I'll scrape up the hours to do class and credit-hours work, even doing online courses at UMUC. Well, I'll talk to them, and we'll figure it out, somehow. Meantime, tomorrow I've got my surgical consult for the molar implants. Depending on what I hear, I'll probably be scheduling the one extraction that needs to take place, then setting up the appointments for implant surgeries, first right side, then left. More when I know more. Now I've got bills, reading, an installation, and much more than I can actually accomplish this evening to attempt. But I'll give it the old Banana Slug effort! Ciao!

0945 - Good morning. Yesterday started early and never slowed down. I was on the road by 0620, working by 0705 supporting a bunch of different efforts on several fronts. No time to post there. I bailed out at 1300 to go to the dentist. There I got xrays taken for the molar implant surgical consult. Then I took the printout and went down and next door and up to the surgeon's office. We had a chat, and determined that everything looked like a go. So I had to schedule an appointment back with the dentist to get the model made. Instead of calling, I just walked next door again, where Barb took the molds right away. What service! I called back and scheduled surgery for June 7. So on that day I'll have one wisdom tooth extracted (it's in the way of one of the implants, and doing me no good as it's tipping over), four molar implants set, and possibly an upper-left bone graft to help support the implant in that location. One three hour session with twilight anesthesia. Lovely prospect, eh?

Today I'm finishing up a kickstart setup for RedHat EL 3 to build assorted evaluation and production servers. I'm sure I'll find other mischief to get into as well. Wish me luck! Ciao!

0641 - Good morning. Time enough for a quick post. Last night I got a "New Music" annoucement from John Buckman over at Magnatune (you remember, the online record label with the catchy motto, "We are not evil"). Among other news, there are four new CD's encompassing both Books of J. S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, played by Daniel-Ben Pienaar. He's simply excellent. I'm going to pick those up, and this suite of Mozart Orchestral Works by Philharmonia Baroque.

I didn't bother to spend any time watering last night, as Mother Nature was scheduled to handle that for me overnight and throughout today, to the tune of perhaps an inch or a little less. So far, it's been squittering down rain since the storm didn't wake me at 0300. It'll make the commute a bear, so I'll head into that now. Happy Friday ... oh, and I almost forgot. Congratulations to Greg Lincoln on getting a new gig with a smaller, more nimble organization that's got a lot more challenge to offer him. Maybe it'll inspire him to start posting more again, as he learns more and shares that with all of us -- nudge, nudge. Ciao!

Mon    Tues    Wed    Thu    Fri    SATURDAY    Sun
May 21, 2005

1008 - Good morning. We slept late, thanks in part to a false alarm from the house system at 0245. It's falsed on the basement door (additionally protected by an outside steel storm door that bolts from the inside, and thus unlikely to be point of entry) twice in the last few days. There's no sign of battery issues, just these alarms. So I'll replace the battery anyway (at 12 bucks a pop) and we'll put in a service call on that sensor.

Yesterday I completed my kickstart setups for building production, evaluation, and review servers. I feel pretty good about that. On tap for today -- house cleaning. That'll probably stretch into tomorrow, the way I'm feeling lazy right now.

Oh, about the rains... By the time all was said and done, we comfortably capped 2 inches or so yesterday, with a few periods that were half-inch or more an hour rate. Wow! But today it's clear and sunny (at the moment). That means beaucoup evaporation, late afternoon humidity and probable thundershowers. Heh. Have a great day!

1238 - Good afternoon. The shopping is done, and we've plenty of chores to do. We swapped days, and I did outside work yesterday. Today we clean inside. More later as time permits. Meantime, lest I forget the price our soldiers pay in the Middle East...

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
