2109 - Good evening. No, not really. The putzes in Congress screwed the pooch today. While I'm mixed about the efficacy of the bailout plan, I'm certain that today's idiocy broke things worse. And the maroons apparently don't have to be at work for the next two days??? Vote them ALL out. ALL of them. Cross party lines, it doesn't matter. If there's an incumbent up for election in November, vote for their opponent. This is the ONLY power we have as citizens. If you don't vote the incumbents out of power, they'll do it again, and again, and again. Get out and vote. And vote for the new guy/gal. Right now http://www.house.gov/ is whacked, presumably by concerned constituents trying to find a way to let their representative know what they think. Keep trying, because if you don't know who your rep is, you won't be able to vote for the other one.

2139 - Good evening. It's a school night. That is, I'm doing class work (and a little work-work on the side). But there's still time, with glowing hearts, to spew projectile, crassly commercial vomit on the IOC. Can we throw them all in chains off the fantail of the USS Enterprise, along with all of our congress critters (who can't even stay on the job, and ought to all be fired).
Remember, this November, vote for the other candidate. Throw all the incumbents out.

1741 - Good evening. Another month gone, another year starting to swirl around the drain (clockwise or counter, depending on your hemispherical orientation). At least you can remember that They're Made Out Of Meat. Go meat, with glowing hearts. Thanks to Tor, for that link. In case you can't tell, I want to be sure that "with glowing hearts" gets all the attention that it's worth, and that the IOC gets none.
Rainfall just above "normal" last month, with a couple of inches in the closing days to make up the gap. Did you see that the Profit of Doom, Al Gore, is now encouraging "acts of civil disobedience" against coal-fired plants. I wonder how well he'd burn (when he gets to Hell, or sooner)? Meantime, the cooling continues, and we have to wonder which cooling cycle starts up the next long ice age. I tell you three times: Come the ice, we'll be wishing that global warming were our problem.

2019 - Good evening. Whoops! There goes another week. One disconcertion: The tire pressure warning light came on. Sigh. I stopped the truck, and kicked all the tires. Hmmm. Fine. So I drive home, and check the pressure. Hmmm. Fine. Let it ride, I have plenty of other stuff to worry about. Nope, still there this morning and this afternoon. I do a bit of web searching prior to calling the dealership: What? The spare? Yep, there's a pressure transducer in the spare, too. So I dropped that - it was a shade under 30 PSI. Sigh. So I dragged the compressor up to the garage and aired-up the spare. Trouble light gone, yay!
This weekend, the garden goes. The peppers are still producing a little bit, but the tomatoes moved from light production to shinola-equivalent. So that's gotta go, right after I get the oil changed in the truck. That's the whole plan, nothing exciting at all. Ciao!

1555 - Good afternoon. Oil change: check. Tires, new: check. Lawns, mowed, twice (sigh): check. Out of steam: check. Garden: Tomorrow, hopefully. That about summarizes the situation. Ciao!

2100 - Good evening. The garden's been gutted. I chopped everything left in place and turned it all under. I did three by hand, then broke out the rototiller and did the final three. As that process went on, I harvested out the last of the tomatoes, basil, eggplant, and three kinds of pepper. The tomatoes are all one with the sauce, now. The peppers are all chopped and ready for the freezer. I'll do something with the basil before the next day or so is gone - right now the cut plants are standing in water, so should remain useful for a day or so.
Another Sunday, another week of loss and pride. DOD reported nine more deaths in service to the country supporting our Mideast entanglements. Our folks over there try to bring freedom and sanity to a region that seems to be lacking a bit of both. When their job is done, those places should not be a haven for terror, both against the locals, and outward facing. Hell of a job, you ask me - and a better bunch of men and women to get the job done you couldn't ask for. Thanks! Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
