1952 - Good evening. Well, I got my first "A" in a good many years. Had I gotten a "B", it would not have surprised me - the letter would have stood for Bad Attitude, mostly due to the internal conflict I need to resolve between real world experience versus what they teach. I must remember: Give them the answer they're looking for ... the degree and the experience will both be valuable over time. My next class is Setwork Security. I wonder if I'll be able to introduce the best firewall around: MJR's, of course. I don't have much else to add, it being Monday night and all. Oh, yeah. The dental visit to remediate a bit of a soft spot on a buckle on a lower left molar went okay. Because of the position, he recommended numbing. That's unusual, since he usually uses technology that needs no pointy things spreading facial off-sliding. But today, it was a good idea. Still, most of the ache now is from the area of multiple perforation while he made sure the novacaine was sure to catch the major nerve trunk. I continue to recommend Dr. Douglas Drewyer, if you're in the aread and looking for a dentist. Now, ciao!

1845 - Good evening. Sites that provide amusement, or interest: Watcher Junior, The Undergraduate Journal of Buffy Studies. Don't follow the 'Slayage' link, it's toast. After turning down a Faith-based sequel to Buffy, and doing several other gigs, Eliza Dushku is working with Joss Whedon again, on a new series called Dollhouse. Might be fun. You know, Marcia and I really ought to finish watching Firefly one of these years. That show still didn't really catch me right.
I should paint... but when the painting's done, we'll need to do carpet, lighting, and furniture. That's all a bit pricier than few tens of dollars I spent on paint and supplies so far. On the other hand, my summer session class "starts" next Wednesday — there goes my evenings again. Anyway, ciao!

Row 1 - Normal rainfall Glenn Dale Bell Station, 1921-1987
2203 - Good evening. That first row of precipitation in inches is the "normal" rainfall at the Glenn Dale Bell Station, quite near here, data snagged from this page. I find slightly higher numbers here, adding up to an extra 1.3 inches annually to "normal". Any way you look at it, we've gotten over 3 months worth of rain in the last 7 weeks. On a related topic, have a look at this interesting graph about the last few years of temperature trends. And that doesn't correct for the urban heat island effect, since that influence contradicts the Gore Effect. You can read more about that here. And the latest Archibald presentation is also illuminating.
Marcia's old system has been croaking over the last 6 months. It was going to take several hundred dollars to furbish, so instead I bought her a laptop - one of the Lenovo T61 systems. I've been fettling it for the last couple of hours - removing unneeded cruft, adding Windows updates, appropriate software, etc. This weekend, I'll be migrating her profile over. Should be a breeze. Ciao!

0959 - Good morning. Sorry about that. Time flows. Last night, I got home a little early, so I got all the mowing done ... then I collapsed for the evening. Today: cleaning, and painting. Tomorow: shopping, and whatever painting remains. Maybe light fixtures, too. School starts again on Wednesday, so I want to have the dining room as done as can be, before that ramps up. Ciao!

2147 - Whoa. I almost missed this update. I'm discombobulated by all the activity and the long weekend. Tomorrow isn't "Monday", because I'm not going to "work". So today isn't Sunday, right? For a progress report, here goes...
The top floor of the house sparkles. It's really, really clean. Once that was done, I did the second color coat on the upper walls of the dining room. Then I got Marcia's machine swapped out for her new laptop, and after some travails, got all the important profiles moved over and recognized by the freshly installed (mostly Mozilla) goo. There went 13 hours.
Today, after the shopping and an early lunch, I started picking up the main floor of the house in preparation for cleaning down there. But instead, that effort turned into a re-organize the living room event. We've been talking about it for some while now — the furniture and the layout made the room feel pretty cramped. We took out one chair, and moved nearly everything else around. Looks better, more open; it's easier to navigate, too. But that (plus cleaning everything that was in there, from floors to deep-cleaning the wooden pieces) took about five hours. So the rest of the cleaning is now in tomorrow's schedule. And I have to peel back the carpet in the dining room and finish up painting the trim. Then we can schedule the carpet bloke. There's also weeding in the garden to do, and a couple of plant replacements. Plus some maintenance work needed on the front porch. </shudder>
I am sad to report seven more casualties in Bush's wars. That's how these will be remembered. No matter how future historians regard today's events, I'm deeply proud of and honored by the service of our fine young men and women in our defense. Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
