2125 - Well, no house guest tonight, schedule's been rearranged. By the time I was finished feeding and walking dogs and self, it was about 2030. Now it's later than that, but I can't seem to get the clock gadget going yet. On E17. Yep, it's time to play around a bit with desktops. Both Gnome and KDE still feel slow to me, I'm not sure why (perceptually). And since I haven't tried Enlightenment in about a decade, so it's time. It's a much lighter set of libraries and tools that underpin the desktop, which improves the responsiveness. And Enlightenment's been used to get Ubuntu running happy and shiny on netbooks, too. Oh, hey, there's the clock. And it's analog. I don't see a digital clock, though. Dammit. Doug Adams knew that the descendents of monkeys need cool digital displays, none of that sloppy analogue stuff. Still experimenting. Enlightenment has clearly retained its focus on being elegant without being heavy. Nice. Nothing else to report at this time, Ciao!

2238 - Yay! Jen's here to visit for a couple of days. Since the turkey burger was still a frozen turkey brick, we had pizza instead, and watched Bottleshock. Fun flick. We finished that up just before 9, in time for me to buckle down and spend 1.5 hours updating and rebooting systems. Go, go, gadget worker-bee! Tomorrow, Marcia's got the day off. She is going to spend the day doing girly stuff with Jen. For me? Well, at least it's going to be Friday, even though I am on call. Ciao!

2142 - And Jen is gone. Following supper out tonight at Mi Hacienda (yum), she headed over to stay with another friend before flying home tomorrow. Today was bacon day, and it was good. I also managed to fit in a significant mowing event - it was low 90's today, and it'll be as warm or warmer for the next few days, according to the weather liars. Not much else to report, except that I'm really quite tired, and think I'll retire early tonight. Ciao!

1104 - Steve and Barbara both noticed that I forgot to change the variable that controls the datestamp at the top of the page. My bad. Back tonight.

2219 - Linda made pizza from scratch tonight, with yummy Gallo salami brought from California. Yay! And we watched Alice tonight. Fun flick, although the bits put in just for the 3D F/X were annoying. Johnny Depp continues to rock. And now ...

Sadness. Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
