2154 - Good evening. Marcia's recovering from a mild relapse of her flu-like malady. I'm getting ready to do a bit of remote infrastructure upgrading momentarily, after an evening of schoolwork. So, as you see, normal and boring, but I thought I'd drop by to say so. Yeah, I know, not even interesting enough for Twitter, but still I'm here. Sigh. Oh, hey ... wait, I can't talk about that. Sorry. I guess I'll say Ciao!

2130 - A long odyssey this week, trying to get support line up with a certain major large software vendor who shall remain nameless (though beaten to a bloody pulp, in my mind). Each evening has been school work - I alternate evenings working and reading in each class. Boring for the rest of the world, productive towards that goal, for me. I did see the iPad 2 event on Wednesday. And no, not for me. Apple needs to figure out that making cool stuff doesn't mean they get to own the universe, any more than GM gets 30 cents for every dollar of gas pumped into one of their cars. Get a grip, AAPL! I'll look hard at Android tablets over the next few months, and may get one, or may just go with an Android phone once this contract is up. I think I'd like that.

1901 - Good evening. Yesterday was yardwork. I pruned out all the dead grasses from last year, shaved the front lawn, and fertilized front and back. Just in time, too, as we had a nice gentle rain all day, perhaps half an inch or a bit more over the last 12 hours. That'll soak in right nice. Temps are forecast for 30's to 50's (F) for the next several days. Beginning to feel right spring-like.

On the cool-as-beans front, I found out about Graphical Network Simulator (GNS), a GPL'd project that is a GUI front end for dynamips, a hardware emulator for MIPS64 and PowerPC systems that run network operating systems such as IOS, JunOS, and others. These tools plus a legal copy of IOS make it possible to do network simulation with fully functional switches and routers from serveral top-name network infrastructure vendors. It's the right tool for the class I'm taking right now, too. Huzzah!

I'd note that Marcia didn't find this nearly as interesting or exciting as I did...

Our condolences to the families and units of these fallen warriors:

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
